November 2020 Feels - Gratitude

Updated: Jun 14

🍁 Tis the season to be grateful! If you’re like me, November isn’t the only time I practice gratitude - it’s just the month I talk about it the most lol! The intentional practice of gratitude has done SO much for me.

It was during my very beginning stages of recovering from an abusive relationship with a “narcopath” that I intentionally started practicing gratitude daily. In those days, it was often extremely difficult to find joy, peace, or calmness in my spirit, but my gratitude practice helped TREMENDOUSLY. Everyday, without fail, I would list at least 3 specific things I was particularly grateful for that day.

This practice made me consciously aware of all the AMAZING things I have to be grateful for – and this helped divert my other negative thought patterns.

.

I used an app called Presently, but of course you could do this in so many different ways. Pen and paper, a journal, or other note taking app. The app I used was very simple (which is what I wanted), but it also can send you a Reminder Notification, and to my surprise, it also gives you these cool CONGRATS messages once you have made an entry on X amount of days in a row! That was an extra little boost to my spirit during the hardest time of my recovery.

.

I did my practice at night right before bed because that was the easiest time for me to pop out my phone and jot them down. But, you may prefer to start your day with the practice. The reason the nighttime worked for me so well is because it was still fresh on my mind when I woke up. (Plus, I have two little ones, so not only do I have massive brain-cobwebs when I first wakeup, but I also usually have to get right to mommy duties)! I found that if I had a challenging day, that ending it with my gratitude practice really helped me to re-ground myself and sleep better as well.

.

If you don’t have a gratitude practice, I definitely recommend it. There is no time like the "present" to start a new healthy habit – and it might just change your life!

.

Love yourself,

Steph
